Notable game releases this week include:

3rd July

  • Red Faction: Guerrilla Remastered (PC, Xbox One, PS4)

The mobile versions of Pokemon Quest launched last week bringing blocky freemium Pokemon to a wider audience. This is clearly the platform the game was designed for. [link]

Five Nights At Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon has released a brand new game in the series: Ultimate Custom Night. The free instalment allows you to populate your playthrough with a selection of 50 animatronic characters. [link]

Upcoming Games

HumaNature Studios have posted a Kickstarter update for Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove stating the revival is set to launch later this autumn and that a closed beta will be arriving this week. Of note, Adult Swim Games will no longer be the publisher for the game due to the delays conflicting with their schedule. [link]

The Creative Assembly team responsible for 2014’s Alien: Isolation is working on a tactical first-person shooter. The news comes via the official Creative Assembly website where the company is recruiting for a “Senior UI Artist” to work on the “new unannounced IP”. [link]

Left 4 Dead and Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios is working on an unannounced AAA game in a “globally-known franchise”. [link]

DLC and Updates

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now compatible with Nintendo Labo allowing the handlebar model to be used as an officially-supported controller. [link]

Leaks & Rumours

Spider-Man’s final, mysterious villain may have been leaked thanks to a careless voice actor. [link]

CD Projekt RED’s more recent job openings drop big hints about the existence or potential of multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077. [link]

According to Windows Central, internal documents have leaked from a presentation which talks about a new Xbox Community Content platform. The platform is said to allow developers to support user-generated content for their games, including defining what can be modded, how this new content can be used in game, and whether or not it will cost money. There are new Nvidia drivers available (398.36) which have been tuned for The Crew 2 and State of Decay 2. There are also a couple of bug fixes for G-Sync, HDR, and Stereoscopic 3D. [link]


Elgato Systems is changing its name to Eve Systems as part of a shift in focus to their smart home devices. Their Elgato gaming line has been sold to Corsair who will maintain it as a separate entity. [link]

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is going to be available on Xbox Game pass from 11th July. They also added several older games you’ve no doubt played many times before including Oblivion, Fallout 3, Human Fall Flat, and the excellent ABZU. [link]

Over $1m of PUBG items have been lost due to a recent shutdown of website OPSkins. Trading was suspended in PUBG fairly abruptly meaning the skins were waiting for restrictions to be lifted before being traded back. A longer known change to CSGO trading meant the site was shut down before the skins could be returned. Whoops! [link]

Valve is developing some new data tools which they hope will provide more accurate and useful data than that which Steam Spy used to provide. [link]

Warner Bros have hit back at Bethesda regarding the Westworld mobile game using code from Fallout Shelter saying that the allegations are “as surprising as they are unsubstantiated”. Looks like this will end up going to court. [link]

Hollow Knight has sold over a quarter of a million copies on the Switch in its first two weeks. [link]

Bethesda Games Studio’s director and executive producer Todd Howard has said that “Sony isn’t being as helpful as we want them to be” in regards to cross platform play in Fallout 76. I can’t help but think these news stories are going to start having a real affect on Sony shortly. [link]
