Upcoming Games

Everybody knows that I am ridiculously excited for Red Dead Redemption 2 but a new Western game has also piqued my interest: This Land Is My Land. Developed by Game-Labs (know for the Ultimate General series), this open world stealth game looks at the Wild West era from the Native perspective. There are no details on platform or release date yet but it is highly likely this will be coming to PC as per the developers previous games. [link]

Warframe, the massively popular free-to-play looter shooter which recently received its Sacrifice update, is heading to Switch. The port will be handled by Panic Button, the same people who recently ported both DOOM and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to the console. A launch date hasn’t yet been announced. [link]

DLC and Updates

Planet Coaster is receiving yet another piece of paid DLC, this time allowing you to build all manor of old fashioned rides and cosmetics as part of the “Vintage Pack”. I particularly like the Zoltan that will predict your future! There is also a free update that will add in-game branded vending machines, recolourable staff members, scenery grouping, and filters along with a wooden mouse coaster. The DLC and free update both launch on 10th July. [link]

Ant-Man and the Wasp are being bought to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 as part of the appropriately named “The Ant-Man and the Wasp Character and Level pack”. It features a new level and eight unlockable characters. [link]

Far Cry 5 has gained a photo mode with “Title Update 8” which was released last week. The mode extends to all DLC and the Far Cry Arcade maps (whilst playing solo) and allows the player to adjust time of day, field of view, filters, and alter character’s facial expressions. [link]

Leaks & Rumours

A Lenovo rep has sparked more rumours of Nvidia’s GTX 1180 GPUs suggesting it could be coming sooner rather than later. [link]

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been datamined to reveal a fully customisable experience that will drop in a future update. The patch will allow players to tweak a vast array of game parameters and will include a new difficulty level. [link]

Intel might have accidentally revealed some details of their new 9th generation of processors showing just modest MHz gains over the 8th generation. [link]

According to outgoing Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima the company hasn’t yet fully disclosed the Switch’s 2018 line-up so there could be another headline grabbing game after Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I always assumed the next big Switch game would be Pokémon but that isn’t due until late next year. [link]

Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be getting amiibo for Pichu and Ice Climbers in addition to the previously announced Inkling, Ridley, and Daisy. [link]

The Xbox One July update is now live featuring the FastStart system which allows selected games to launch up to 2x faster when installing for the first time. [link]

Pillars of Eternity 2 now has mod support (as of v1.2.0) for character backgrounds, voice sets, and classes. Mods are managed through a custom Mod Manager accessible in the game settings rather than through Steam Workshop. [link]

In celebration of Twitch Prime Day on 16th July, the streaming platform’s premium subscription service is giving away 21 free games including Tacoma, Pillars of Eternity, QUBE 2, and Brutal Legend. Typically, it also includes The Red Strings Club which I purchased just last week. Doh! [link]

An Assassin’s Creed game that features multiple historic timelines in one game is likely with the introduction of next-gen consoles and technology according to Ubisoft EVP Lionel Raynaud. [link]

Valve has gathered the best selling and most played games of the year into a lightly informative Best of 2018 roundup. One of the most interesting is that Jurassic World: Evolution is up there in the top selling games of the year despite only being released last month. [link]

With Steam Spy effectively dead, some people have been trying to find a way to get similar data. It turns out you could estimate sales figures by looking at achievement data but Valve has now blocked this method in an update last week. [link]

Two ArenaNet developers were dismissed this week following a social media blowup between a YouTube content creator and a designer on Guild Wars 2. [link]

Radiant Entertainment announced today that development on Stonehearth will end this month, and that several stretch goal features will not be added. The studio later said it is “working on a mechanism” to refund Kickstarter backers who are unsatisfied with the final state of the game. [link]

After being denied classification by the Australian Classification Review Board back in May — effectively banning the game for sale in the country — We Happy Few has been given an official rating and will now be released in Australia. It turns out the entire ordeal was related to the amount of drugs usage in the game. [link]

Cool Shit

Sea of Thieves has added a wonderful limited-time figurehead to celebrate the 20th birthday of Banjo-Kazooie. The Bird and Bear Figurehead, as it’s officially known, doesn’t feature the iconic duo directly but instead pays homage via a wood-carved grizzled brown bear paired with an avian blue and red shield. Ash Ketchum began his Pokémon journey at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 10 days. So how old does that make Ash now that the show’s run for 1020 episodes? It’s a big question, and the answer will change your life in exactly zero ways. [link]
