Upcoming Games

Titanfall Online, the multiplayer “new and engaging online game” aimed at the Asian market and announced way back in 2015 has been cancelled. Nexon, who was developing the game, said “it was decided that reallocating development resources to another project was better for the company”. Probably something to do with EA buying Respawn last year. [link]

WWE 2K19 won’t be coming to Nintendo Switch after the widely-criticised port of WWE 2K18 last year. It will still release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this October but a Switch version is not planned. [link]

Code Vein which revealed a September release date last month has now been pushed back into 2019 in order to “further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title”. [link]

Shiro Games, the developers behind Northgard and Evoland, have announced a new top-down action game titled Darksburg. Little has been revealed aside from it being for up to 4 players and that you’ll be fighting against waves of zombies but it is likely more details will be unveiled at Gamescom next month. [link]

Wormhole Wars, the arena FPS that blends gameplay from Halo 2 and Portal, has now been renamed to Splitgate: Arena Warfare. The game remains in closed alpha and apparently has a fair way to go before it is ready for its proposed release next year. [link]

Eagle Dynamics, creators of many an aerial combat simulator, have announced a new game titled Modern Air Combat. It will include 14 flyable aircraft spanning conflicts during the Korean War to the modern day and looks to have a stunning game engine from the trailer. It will launch later this year on PC and will be compatible with VR devices. [link]

Wasteland 2, the sequel to the classic computer role-playing game first released in 1988, is coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut. It will be available this August and will not make use of the Switch touchscreen. [link]

The Voxel Agents have announced that their adventure puzzle game, The Gardens Between, will arrive on Switch later this year alongside the previously announced versions for PC and PS4. [link]

Warface, the 2013 free-to-play shooter from Crytek, is due to make a comeback on Xbox One and PS4 this September. There is no fixed release date yet but PS4 gamers will be able to play from 14th August as part of an early access period with the Xbox One having something similar at a later date. [link]

Early Access Graduations

Dead Cells will officially leave Early Access on 7th August. It doesn’t look like there will be anything new in the v1.0 build although the developers stress that they are still working on new content as previously promised as well as improving the recently released mod support. [link]

DLC and Updates

Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic Games is in the process of delivering on the remaining stretch goals, including one that amps up the Nintendo 64 era nostalgia: a filter that makes the game looks much worse. The developer offered a work-in-progress peek at the promised “64-Bit” tonic but there isn’t a release date as yet. Personally I’m more interested in the promised orchestral soundtrack from Grant Kirkhope… [link]

Leaks & Rumours

Actor Nathan Fillion is teasing something related to Uncharted, perhaps a role in the long-awaited film (although Tom Holland has already been assigned the role of Nathan Drake which Fillion seems more suited to). [link]

Valve is updating the “upcoming” tab within Steam to be much more useful. Rather than listing every single game (which is obviously a lot), it now has a “popular upcoming” tab that shows games with considerable pre-release interest whilst a “see more upcoming releases button” will display games from your wishlist and those it recommends based on your interests and habits. It is supposed to be live now but isn’t showing for me currently. [link]

AMD has new drivers (18.7.1) that come with some hefty performance improvements to Earthfall as well as some bug fixes for Fortnite and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. [link]

Nintendo have said that they are “looking to release around 20 to 30 indie games on Nintendo Switch per week” in a recent shareholders meeting. [link]

Kalypso Media has purchased Pyro Studios along with the rights to the Commandos IP which means remasters and future titles are potentially on the way. [link]

In a new CS:GO patch, Valve has restricted players in Belgium and the Netherlands from opening loot boxes. Players will still be able to sell or trade their skins on the Steam Market but not engage with the crate and key economy available to the rest of the player base. [link]

Cool Shit

The Witcher Tabletop Roleplaying Game is set to debut at Gen Con on 2nd August and then be available for purchase shortly after. [link]

The fan-made remaster mod for Resident Evil 4 HD is now available and finishes updating the textures that Capcom neglected in the 2014 re-release. [link]
