Upcoming Games

“The PC version of Fallout 76, for both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam”. That is the comment from a Bethesda rep confirming no Steam launch for Fallout 76 although I’m expecting it to appear on the store a few months later similar to Fallout Shelter. [link]

A Nintendo Direct was held specially for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate last week with the reveal of new characters Simon and Richter Belmont from the Castlevania series and King K. Rool from Donkey Kong. Several other stages and “echo fighters” were also revealed along with the announcement that there were over 800 music tracks in the game! [link]

Deathgarden, an asymmetrical shooter with a concept similar to The Running Man, is coming to Early Access tomorrow (14th August) and will be free for the first week. [link]

Child of Light is coming to the Switch on 11th October but more interestingly is that the reveal photo has a big piece of paper saying “Child of Light II” suggesting a sequel is also on the way (unless it was meant to reference the 11th date of release although that seems an unlikely mistake to make). Torchlight Frontiers, the next entry in Perfect World Entertainment’s action role-playing series, has been announced for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 with an unspecified release date. John and I enjoyed the previous entry, Torchlight II, but this one seems to more MMO-like with the dreaded words “service game” uttered by CEO Max Schaefer. [link]

Rockstar released a 6 minute gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 showcasing what looks to be the most immersive open world seen in a game yet. I am beyond excited for this but for now I recommend this article from Game Informer where they highlight 15 standout details from the trailer. [link]

Despite announcing it 2 months before the Switch launched, Ubisoft has chosen to instead quietly cancel the port for Steep via a Twitter reply rather than a formal announcement. They are instead going to “focus on bringing new live content and challenges to Steep players”. [link]

More details were unveiled for Doom Eternal including the fact that there will be some campaign-focused DLC for the sequel rather than just multiplayer stuff. It does, however, have an online invasion mode where other players can invade your campaign as hellspawn. [link]

Re-Releases

Free-to-play, survival-themed game Let it Die is coming to PC later this year after a period of PS4 exclusivity since December 2016. [link]

DLC and Updates

Rocket League’s upcoming cross-platform party system, “RocketID”, has been delayed until September whilst they improve the quality. However, the big changes to progression are still happening later this month with the Rocket Pass upgrade system launching one week later. [link]

Into The Breach has received an update so it now runs on macOS. A Linux version is also in active development with no current ETA on a release date. [link]

Business

Discord is getting in on the digital storefront action by launching a beta in Canada. It allows users to buy games from publishers such as THQ and Deep Silver in addition to games from indie publishers such as Raw Fury. Subscribers to Discord Nitro ($5 a month, $50 a year) will be able to play a selection of games curated by the platform which Discord describes as “an easy opportunity to play the golden games you’ve missed”. [link]

The Nintendo Switch online membership launch window has been narrowed done from “September” to “second half of September”. [link]

Bethesda have raised some ire by threatening to sue an individual who was reselling a copy of The Evil Within 2. They have since clarified it is because the game was listed “as new” but didn’t come with an official warranty as that was non-transferable. [link]

Cool Shit

John and I were discussing this on stream the other day but it turns out that Rocket League does have some language banning going on and it is celebrating its first birthday. Definitely don’t see as many “hope you die of cancer” messages as we used to! [link]

Ben Schwartz will be the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming movie. He seems to be getting typecast as blue characters… [link]

Capcom is releasing an Umbrella Corporation-themed typewriter keyboard to coincide with the launch of the Resident Evil 2 remake. It’ll cost around £530 and is only available in Japan. [link]
